World Literature is a course designed to encourage reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. I encourage all students to come to class with an open mind as we explore our world through a variety of sources: novels, non-fiction essays, short stories, fables, and poetry. The literature in this course crosses borders of the world map as well as time, cultures, and beliefs. We will be responding to what we read in a variety of ways as well: discussion, formal literary analysis, comparative essays, personal narratives, and poetry. In an effort to improve your command of language, we (your DSST English teachers!) have integrated ACT college readiness standards into our own English curriculum, both in instruction and benchmark assessments. This class is an introduction to the concept of freedom in an attempt to understand the roles and relationships of democracy & capitalism in American History.

Calculus: The study of three major topics: Limits, Derivatives and Integrals and their relevance to the real world. Welcome to AP Statistics. This is an introductory course in statistics and has the dual goals of preparing students for the AP Statistics exam and teaching students to use statistics in both scientific investigations and in their daily lives. Hopefully these goals have a good deal of overlap. However, while the curriculum will cover a vast array of topics, we will approach the material through inquiry as much as possible, developing analysis and problem-solving skills. The content will focus on three main areas of study: I. Molecules and Cells (Chemistry of Life, Cells, Cellular Energetics) II. Heredity and Evolution (Heredity, Molecular Genetics, Evolutionary Biology) III. Organisms and Populations (Diversity of Organisms, Structure and Function of Plants and Animals, Ecology)Biology X is a laboratory science class that focuses on the interactions, structure and function of living organisms and their component parts, including the growth and reproduction of cells, genetics, and the evolution and classification of living systems Chemistry is the study of matter and energy and how they are transformed and conserved. In this class we will be delving into the science of matter by conducting inquiry based labs in which students will be designing and conducting their own experiments Chemistry I emphasizes the language of chemistry, the laboratory skills needed to investigate properties of matter and energy, and the application of mathematical skills to the interpretation of data. Requires laboratory investigations with proper write-ups; analysis of the relationship between matter and energy; and problem solving through interpreting the periodic chart, application of gas laws, moles, stoichiometry, preparation and properties of solutions. Earth Science is structured as three stand-alone courses, one per trimester. Earth Science I will be focusing on Geology and Plate Tectonics, Earth Science II will study Atmosphere and Oceans, and Earth Science III will study Geologic Time, Colorado Geology, and Astronomy. This page will be a resource to access assignments, resources, and additional information about the course. Write a concise and interesting paragraph here that explains what this course is about The Level I language course focuses on the development of communicative competence in the target language and understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. It assumes that the students have minimal or no prior knowledge of the language and culture. The major means of communication between students and instructors is the target language. An important component of language classes is the use of the language within and beyond the school setting. The integration of technology is an important tool in accessing authentic information in the target language and in providing students the opportunity to interact with native speakers. Welcome! This is a great year to continue your study of the Spanish language and cultures. We'll improve our skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening through a variety of different means--authentic texts, online resources, films, music and more--as we reinforce our understanding of vocabulary, grammar and the amazing cultures behind this incredible language.

The level IV language course focuses on the continued development of communicative competence in the target language and understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. It assumes that the students have completed a Level III course and most are at a Novice-High level of speaking proficiency. During this course, most students should move into the Intermediate range of proficiency. They gain confidence in understanding an increasing variety of oral and written messages in the foreign language, recombining learned material of the language, creating in the language to express their own thoughts, interacting with other speakers of the language, and making level-appropriate oral and written presentations in the target language. They are exposed to move complex features of the language. Students are able to understand material presented on a variety of topics related to contemporary events and issues in the target culture(s). Write your summary here - course settings The Spanish for Native Speakers I class offers students who are already able to converse and understand Spanish an opportunity to maintain, develop, and refine their language use. All students will have the chance to improve literacy and writing skills in Spanish. To accomplish this, students will broaden their experience through regular reading from sources ranging from newspapers, books, magazines to authentic texts found on the Internet. In addition, students will have the opportunity to write often for a variety of purposes and audiences. By further developing oral and literacy skills in Spanish, students can enhance their literacy development in English.
